Bremond Real Estate

Bremond, Texas has a rich history of industry and agriculture. The town is named after Paul Bremond, one of the founding fathers of the Texas railway system, and whose descendants went on to be prominent members of Texas society. Paul's daughter Margaret was married to William Marsh Price, the primary benefactor of Rice University. 

Paul Bremond's father was reported to be a doctor of Napoleon Bonaparte. One family record shows Dr Bremond as a cousin of Napoleon's wife, Josephine.  He came to the United States in 1805 and married  Katherine Green of New York. The couple had eight children, Paul being the eldest of those eight. Dr Bremond remained in New York for the duration of his life, but his offspring crossed the state border at an early age. 

Paul left New York at age 12 to pursue an apprenticeship at a hat maker in Philadelphia. When the accessories market started to decline, Paul moved to Galveston, Texas in 1840. Paul wanted to set up residence and begin the second chapter of his life as the owner of an auction house. He was fortunate enough to meet and become business associates of some of the most remarkable businesspeople of the time.  

One of such persons was William Ashley Van Alstyne, a prominent merchant in the area. Mr Van Alstyne was also one of the initiators of the Houston & Central Texas Railway. He was also Mr Bremond's father-in-law for a time. The HCTR was an essential component of connecting that part of Texas with the rest of the region. 

Living in Bremond

Thanks to the railway system, Bremond became a terminal town, one of the stops along the rail systems. The city grew according to what was needed to support the commerce traded along the streets. Blacksmiths, banks, mercantile shops all popped up along the main roads. According to town legend, some of the buildings were erected with hinged walls so that they could be disassembled readily and carried to the next town. 

The late 1870s brought a new wave of residents to the community, and their legacy remains today. In 1875, the Bartula family landed in Bremond. They were the first of the Polish settlers to set up residence in the town. Today Bremond hosts one of the largest Polish communities in the area. 

Real Estate in Bremond 

The community celebrates its early settlers by carrying on traditions passed along by generations and with the Polish festival every year. The festival lasts for two days, usually in the summer, and is packed with activities for all ages. From Polish Pickle Runs to horseshoe tournaments, and of course food for days, it is an excellent way to honor those early inhabitants as well as keep the younger generation excited about their heritage.
