Chappell Hill Real Estate for Sale
Chappell Hill real estate for sale is a delightful mix of historic homes, farms, ranches, and newer construction homes with acreage. You can still see evidence of the cotton, timber, processing plants and the railway that made the town profitable in the early years.
Living In Chappell Hill
The town was named for Robert Wooding Chappell, in 1847, and is located halfway between Brenham and Hempstead. We are known for our historic Texas landmarks and country charm, plus our festivals and The Republic of Texas-era sights.
Our central section of town is on the National Register Historic District; this is where we hold our parades and festivals. We love holidays in Chappell Hill. Every year our residents participate in the Scarecrow Contest held by the Chappell Hill Historical Society, as well as the Independence Day parade featuring our 80-member Marching Kazoo Band.
Learning in Chappell Hill
Formal education has always been a part of Chappell Hill's culture. Soule University was the predecessor to Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. The school building itself was a three-story stone building that held classes from 1861 until 1887 when they closed for good. The last president of the University went on to Georgetown to help the Methodist Church establish Southwestern.
Today our young residents are educated in the Brenham Independent School District, the first public school district in Texas. There are currently 4,700 students enrolled, but that doesn't mean your child is just a number. Teachers, staff, and administrators within the Brenham ISD strive to provide individual attention to all who are enrolled.
Special programs like Outdoor Education teach land stewardship to young adults, a critical component to conserving our natural resources for future generations. Afterschool curriculum provides a safe and enjoyable environment for elementary and middle school children, as well as a convenience for hard-working parents.
Athletic opportunities are plentiful within the Brenham ISD, as sports have always been a cultural focus in our part of the country. Eligible students can try out for baseball, soccer, football, softball, golf, swim, or tennis teams. In addition to keeping kids active and healthy, organized athletics teaches teamwork, responsibility, and positive competitive attitudes.

The Chappell Hill Bluebonnet Festival is an annual event held in the spring. Local exhibitors offer booths full of home décor, gardening, artistry and other hand-crafted specialty items for sale. Plus the pony rides and a petting zoo provide for fun for the little ones. The legislature declared our Bluebonnet Festival "The Official Bluebonnet Festival" of Texas. And, Texas Highways magazine voted ours as the #7 most popular festival in the state. We are quite proud of both honors!
We have a bevy of Bed and breakfast inns and unique restaurants in Chappell Hill. Every year during our festivals, the town is transformed from a quiet hamlet to a buzzing center of activity. Guests find accommodations with the Lillian Farms Country Estate Bed & Breakfast, The Cottage at Chappell Hill, or The Inn at Dos Brisas.
These three represent the ultimate in lodging experiences for Bluebonnet country. Each offers a unique perspective on the traditional Bed & Breakfast. All provide guests with luxury, history, and our famous Southern hospitality.
Chappell Hill Lavender Farm is a delight for the senses. It is a four-acre working establishment, owned by two of our residents, that produces lavender for decoration, oil, and bath products. Lavender is not a native plant for our area, so the owners plant hybrid varieties that can tolerate the Texas humidity.
Texas Star Winery invites fermented beverage lovers from all over to settle in with a specialty wine created on site. They concoct hand-batch wines with fruits like Cranberry, Prickly Pear, and Plum, as well as traditional grapes.
Classic Labradors is the place to go for the newest addition to your family. The family has been in the dog-breeding business for over two decades. They don't just produce puppies; they care for the dogs, and it shows.
The Circulating Library was organized in 1893 by William G. Foote, the son of an administrator of Soule University. The Civic Club of Chappell Hill constructed the building that currently houses the books. It is open the second Saturday of every month and by appointment.
